Kaiju Kukicha, or “twig tea”, is a unique type of steamed green tea that incorporates twigs, stems, and even dried leaves from previous harvesting seasons. The result is a nutty and smooth flavor, lower acidity, and almost no caffeine. An excellent substitute for Sencha and Matcha, Kukicha is often enjoyed iced as well as hot. It’s a perfect companion to a sweltering summer day!
Because of its mild taste and low caffeine content, it’s also popular with children. Mixed into juice or alone, it’s a great treat!
Grown and harvested in beautiful southern Kyoto, all of our tea is 100% organic, and grown without pesticides, chemicals, or GMOs.
"Kaiju" ("怪獣") means beast in Japanese!
Quantity For each cup of tea (6 oz) use approximately 1 teaspoon of tea (3g).
Temperature Kukicha should be steeped in water that’s around 70°C to 80°C (160°F to 180°F). Boiling water will burn the leaves and ruin the flavor. It’s recommended to heat the cup or pot before brewing, so as not to lose any heat.
Steeping 2 to 3 minutes.
Recommended: Using mineral water will provide the best results.
