Its origin came from India, and thru trading relationship with Indian and European traders Inden crafting techniques were widely taught and learned by Kofu craftsmen. Because Kofu is surrounded by mountains that are inhabited by deer and rich in lacquer trees, making it a convenient location for inden craftsmen to access necessary materials. Eventually, Kofu, the capital of Yamanashi Prefecture, became the center of all Inden specialty products. Inden products is famous for been a tough and durable leather lacquered product.
